Here’s a great book for anyone who ever touches a barbell. It offers valuable insights into the training techniques and nutrition that Steve Reeves used to develop the most classic physique of all time. He explains how you, too, can develop your physique to its optimum potential without drugs.

This new, revised edition is 48 pages longer than the previous book, which was reviewed in the July ’97 IRONMAN—and what an improvement. Reeves added more photos and information and a fabulous new cover. The 185 pictures in this book make it an instant collector’s item for the millions of Reeves fans worldwide.

I was particularly impressed with all the valuable training information. There are 50 exercise illustrations, with detailed instructions on how to perform each movement correctly, as well as a multitude of great training programs, ranging from beginning to advanced. Reeves also covers other phases of bodybuilding, including posing, muscle control, circuit training, high intensity and much more.

Building the Classic Physique the Natural Way is a real how-to volume that’s jam-packed with valuable information you won’t find elsewhere. In fact, I rate it as one of the three greatest books ever published on bodybuilding—the other two being Bill Pearl’s Keys to the Inner Universe and Vince Gironda’s Unleashing the Wild Physique. It should be required reading for everyone who wants to improve his or her physique. As the former editor in chief of Muscle Builder and Physical Power magazines and the author of more than 2,000 articles and 22 books on bodybuilding training—some for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Larry Scott, among others—I feel qualified to give this book my highest rating. It’s a masterpiece.
